OVERVIEW

80% of the 65+ population has no retirement pensions nor social security, which forces retirees to migrate to extremely poor areas where rent is cheaper but rooms are unsanitary and neighborhoods are unsafe. Our support program aims at avoiding that, by assisting these elders in settling their rent, electricity and water bills, and remaining in their homes. In addition to refurbishing the homes of our elderly beneficiaries, and in order to provide them with decent living standards, our housing department has also successfully rehabilitated 3,100 units including 689 small businesses devastated by the August 4th 2020 Beirut port explosion.

3,100

units rehabilitated in 2021 including:
20 heritage listed buildings
up to 7 schools

“There is no NGO like Beit el Baraka. It feels like home, where I don’t have to beg for help. I take what I need with dignity. They repaired my house after the explosion and I visit their free supermarket monthly to stock up on food. They help us so generously and genuinely.”
Hamid, 62 years

“I am forever grateful to Beit el Baraka, God bless them all. They repaired my house after the blast and they welcome me every day in their free supermarket. They are so good to me and I love them for that.
Salwa, 75 years

“Beit el Baraka is the essence of kindness and compassion. I have been a beneficiary from the very beginning; they are the next-door family that changed my life. They are humble and loving – love is at the core of everything they do and that is what is essential.”
Bassima, 70 years

“Beit el Baraka’s people are so good and helpful in every way they can. I have been a beneficiary since they opened their free supermarket. Since my husband passed away, I have only my daughter and Beit el Baraka to look after me. May God give them the strength to go on…”
Hanneh, 82 years

“I have no words to describe Beit el Baraka. They are incredibly good, affectionate, loving, and considerate. They knocked at my door two years ago and offered to help me. I could no longer go on without my husband and without the job I lost since the beginning of the pandemic. Thanks to them, I am still hanging on.”
Georgette, 67 years

“God bless this NGO and every member of their team! They were my support system when I had no job, no income, and needed help the most. Thanks to them and to charitable people like them, the world is still a good place…”
Fatmeh, 65 years
